[90's K-Pop Idol Group] H.O.T (High-five Of Teenagers)

Especially, like my nickname(20century boy), I'll introduce 90's Korean culture to you guys.

Today, I'll show you the first generation of K-Pop boy idol group, H.O.T.

At the moment, you guys might know Red Velvet, NCT, EXO, TVXQ.
They are the famous idol groups which belong to SM Entertainment in Korea.
As you know, SM Entertainment is the one of big idol company in Korea.
H.O.T was the senior of them and they debuted in 1996 and officially disbanded in 2001.

For me, I was born in middle 80's so I listen to the music with these kinds of portable cassette player.
At that time, most people listened to music through a recording and playback storage medium called cassette tape without using a streaming service as we do now.

And when I was a teenager, my hobby was collecting albums.
So, I have tons of tapes.
Now and forever, I will introduce kpop singers focusing on my albums.

This is the first album of H.O.T.

The catchphrase of 1st album is 'We hate all kinds of violence'.
At that time, school violence was a serious social problem in Korea. Issues such as bullying, assault, and suicide were nationwide issues. Therefore, their debut song "Descendants of Warriors" composed of 5 high school students, was revolutionary.

The lyrics are as follows.

In the end, there were many rumors that school violence decreased due to their popularity and fame.

With this momentum, they became the best idol in Korea with follow-up song 'Candy'.
'Candy' was a fresh love song unlike the 'Descendants of Warriors', but it was enough to steal the hearts of teenage girls.

It was a hit in a row, with over a million copies sold in the first album.
So, some people say that the Korean Wave began because of them.

They released a total of five regular albums, all of which were mega-hit.
As time went by, all the members participated in writing and composing, and their musicality deepened.

As mentioned earlier, they disbanded in 2001,
In 2018, they reorganized and resumed their activities around concerts.

This was the introduction of K-pop's first mega-hit idol group, H.O.T.
